Michela Milano è la Direttrice dell' Alma Mater Research Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, che conta oltre 400 ricercatori e professori di 27 dipartimenti. È professore ordinario di Sistemi di Intelligence all'Università di Bologna. È autrice di oltre 180 articoli su conferenze e riviste internazionali peer-reviewed. È stata Vice Presidente dell'Associazione Europea di Intelligenza Artificiale (EurAI), Consigliere Esecutivo dell'Associazione sugli Avanzamenti dell'Intelligenza Artificiale (AAAI), membro del Gruppo di Esperti sull'IA del Ministro dello Sviluppo Economico, membro del Comitato di Programma del Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca per Horizon Europe, membro del Gruppo di esperti per il Piano Nazionale della Ricerca per l'Intelligenza Artificiale del Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca, membro del gruppo di esperti per la Roadmap strategica italiana sull'intelligenza artificiale guidata dal Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca, dal Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico e dal Ministero della Trasformazione Digitale. E’ stata inoltre nominata membro dell'Accademia delle Scienze.

Michela Milano is the Director of the Alma Mater Research Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence counting 400+ researchers and professors from 27 departments. She is full professor of Intelligence Systems at the University of Bologna. She is author of more than 180 papers on peer-reviewed international conferences and journals. She has been Deputy President of the European Association of Artificial Intelligence (EurAI), Executive Councilor of the Association on the Advancements of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI, member of the Expert Group on AI of the Italian Minister of Economic Development, member of the Program Committee of the Italian Minister of University and Research for Horizon Europe, member of the Group of experts for the Italian National Plan of research for Artificial Intelligence from the Minister of University and Research, member of the group of experts for the Italian Strategic Roadmap on Artificial Intelligence driven by the Minister of University and Research, the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Digital Transformation. She has been nominated member of the Academy of Science.

ABSTRACT

Nella talk tratterò le principali strade future per European AI research and innovation: progetti in corso, bandi e iniziative future. Inoltre, l'Italia ha definito una strategia per l'AI, con importanti azioni proposte per favorire l'adozione dell'AI nelle industrie e nel settore pubblico, nonché per rafforzare la comunità della ricerca. Infine, vengono identificate e discusse alcune delle barriere che impediscono un’ampia adozione dell’AI nell'ecosistema industriale.

In the talk I will cover the main future avenues for European AI research and innovation: current projects, future calls and initiatives. Also, Italy has defined an AI strategy, with important actions proposed to foster the AI uptake in industries and in the public sector, as well as to strengthen the research community. Finally, some barriers that prevent large AI uptake in the industrial ecosystem are identified and discussed.
