Claudio Allocchio ha studiato Astrofisica e Fisica delle Particelle Elementari all'Università di Trieste, ma anche musica (Pianoforte) al Conservatorio. Nel 1985 ha iniziato ad occuparti di reti di calcolatori presso il CERN, ritornando a Trieste nel 1988. È stato uno dei fondatori del GARR, ed ha diretto il progetto COSINE Mail Gateway Services all'inizio degli anni '90, realizzando il primo servizio globale di mail.
Per 11 anni è stato anche il presidente della Naming Authority Italiana (organismo che ha regolato il dominio ".it") ed ora fa parte del Comitato di Indirizzo del "Registro .it". Menbro di IETF dal 1991, è ora il responsabile dell'Applications Area Directorate. Al GARR è il Coordinatore per il Servizi Applicativi Avanzati, ed uno dei creatori di LOLA, il sistema di videoconferenza ultraveloce. Claudio Allocchio è stato premiato alla TNC19 con la medaglia d’onore dalla Vietsch Foundation: importante riconoscimento internazionale per il contributo di idee e innovazioni nel campo del networking.
Claudio Allocchio studied Astrophysics and Physics of Elementary Particles at the University of Trieste, but also music (piano) at the Conservatory. In 1985 he began to deal with computer networks at CERN, returning to Trieste in 1988. He was a founder of GARR Network, and directed the project COSINE Mail Gateway Services in the early 90s, creating the first e-mail global service. For 11 years he was also the president of the Italian Naming Authority (body that regulated the ".it" domain) and is now part of the Address Committee of the "Registro.it". Member of IETF since 1991, he is now in charge of the Application Area Directorate. At GARR is the Coordinator for Advanced Application Services, and one of the creators of LoLA, the ultra-fast videoconferencing system. In 2019 Allocchio was awarded at TNC19 with the Vietsch Foundation Medal of Honor for the demonstrated achievements and long-lasting benefit he contributed to the research and education networking community throughout his career.
Deployment della piattaforma di streaming GARRtv su infrastruttura GARR cloud
La piattaforma GARRTV è il servizio per lo streaming di contenuti audio/video prodotti dalla comunità GARR. Il servizio si configura come un valida alternativa ai noti servizi di streaming offerti da piattaforme come YouTube, Vimeo, UStream; permette infatti sia il caricamento e la gestione di contenuti video da presentare in modalità video on-demand, sia la distribuzione di eventi in live streaming. Tutti i contenuti vengono memorizzati e distribuiti solo ed esclusivamente utilizzando i servizi offerti della Cloud GARR. In questo intervento, verranno presentati i dettagli tecnici e le problematiche affrontate per il deployment di tale servizio; in particolare, si mostrerà come le risorse in Cloud vengono utilizzate a seconda del carico di lavoro necessario (numero di utenti connessi contemporaneamente, numero di flussi video live, ecc.) ad assicurare un'elevata qualità del servizio (QoS).
The GARRTV streaming platform deployment on the GARR cloud infrastructure
The GARRTV platform is a service for the streaming of audio/video contents produced by the GARR community. The service is a valid alternative to the well-known YouTube, Video, UStream streaming services; in fact, it allows users to both upload and manage on-demand video contents than to distribute video events in live streaming. All contents are stored and distributed using only services offered by the GARR Cloud. In this talk we will show some technical details and problems faced while deploying such service; in particular, we will show how the cloud resources are scaled up in relation to the work-load requested in order to maintain a high Quality of Service (QoS).
