Matteo Dell'Acqua

Con oltre 30 anni di esperienza, Matteo Dell'Acqua ha un’ampia formazione nonché una significativa esperienza operativa e tecnica nella gestione di sistemi di previsione, osservazione e informazione su scala nazionale e globale. Laureato in Meteorologia all'Ecole Nationale de la Meteorology, Matteo ha conseguito un master in Telecomunicazioni presso Telecom Paris nel 1990 dopo aver lavorato per Meteo France come analista di sistema. All'inizio della sua carriera in Meteo France è stato istruttore presso il Dipartimento di Formazione e ha sviluppato la rete e la politica di sicurezza informatica di Meteo France. Nel 1998 è entrato in ECMWF come Responsabile della Sezione Network and Grid Computing e come Security Officer. Nel 2006, è tornato in Meteo France per diventare Direttore del Dipartimento di sviluppo ed è stato incaricato di migliorare l'ambiente di produzione di Meteo France al fine di soddisfare la domanda sempre crescente di consegna dei prodotti. Nel 2010 ha assunto la responsabilità del Sistema Informativo Meteo France, coordinando tutte le attività operative dei servizi relativi al clima e alle previsioni, sia definendo la strategia a lungo termine di High Performance Computing e la sua implementazione che gestendo lo sviluppo del sistema di previsione integrato di prossima generazione. Tornato in ECMWF nel 2018 come Direttore Tecnico del programma BOND, Matteo ha guidato le attività tecniche del programma di relocation dei data center ECMWF e la migrazione del loro ambiente di produzione e del servizio di forecast delivery dal Regno Unito all'Italia. Attualmente è Legale Rappresentante di ECMWF in Italia e direttore del Computing and Data Center di Bologna di ECMWF e coordina le attività operative di ECMWF nell'area del calcolo ad alte prestazioni, delle telecomunicazioni e dell'elaborazione e gestione dei dati. Oltre alle sue responsabilità nazionali, Matteo è stato coinvolto in attività internazionali. Ha rappresentato Meteo France nelle organizzazioni internazionali (WMO, ECMWF, EUMETSAT e EUMETNET) e ha contribuito alla definizione e al coordinamento delle attività di Meteo France nei programmi Copernicus e SESAR. In qualità di Chair del World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Open Program on Information Systems and Services, Matteo ha guidato la strategia per la modernizzazione del Sistema Informativo WMO e ha sviluppato l'Associazione OpenWIS che promuove partnership per lo sviluppo di software, volti ad estrarre valore da dati grezzi.

With over 30 years of experience, Matteo Dell’Acqua has a broad background as well as a significant operational and technical experience in the management of forecasting, observing and information systems at national and global scales. Graduated in Meteorology from the Ecole Nationale de la Meteorology, Matteo obtained a master’s degree in Telecommunication from Telecom Paris in 1990 after working for Meteo France as system analyst. During his early career with Meteo France he was an instructor withing the Training Department and he developed the network and the IT security policy of Meteo France. in 1998 he joined ECMWF as Head of the Network and Grid Computing Section and as Security Officer. In 2006, he returned to Meteo France to become Director of the development Department and was tasked to enhance Meteo France's production environment in order to meet the ever-growing demand for products delivery. In 2010 he assumed the responsibility for Meteo France Information System, coordinating all operational activities of the forecast and climate delivery services, defining the long-term High-Performance Computing strategy and its implementation and managing the development of the next generation integrated forecaster system. Back to ECMWF since 2018 as Technical Director of the BOND programme, Matteo has been leading the technical activities of the relocation programme of ECMWF data centre and the migration of their production environment and forecast delivery service from UK to Italy. He is now the Legal Representative of ECMWF in Italy and director of ECMWF Computing and Data Centre in Bologna, coordinating ECMWF operational activities in the area of high-performance computing, telecommunications and data processing and management. Aside his national responsibilities, Matteo has been involved in international activities. He represented Meteo France in international organisations (WMO, ECMWF, EUMETSAT and EUMETNET) and contributed to the definition and coordination of Meteo France activities in Copernicus and SESAR programmes. As Chair of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Open Programme on Information Systems and Services, Matteo has driven the strategy for the modernisation of the WMO Information System and has developed the OpenWIS Association which promotes partnership for the development of software aiming at extracting value from raw data.
