ABSTRACT

The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) will generate a raw data rate up to 8 TB/s. As such, the SKA is recognised as one of the “Big Data” challenges for the next decade. A single data centre could not provide the total resources for supporting the scientific needs of the SKA community and Observatory, therefore a network of SKA Regional Centres (SRC) is being established to enable the community to exploit SKA data for high impact science. SRC federated software infrastructure will need to be deployed and supported in-and-across the distributed, heterogeneous facilities of the SRC network. In this talk we present the main requirements of such federated platform and the current prototyping activities on the GARR Cloud.
