ABSTRACT
We find ourselves at a deciding moment: either we embrace entirely a new model of conducting, publishing, evaluating research, or we will most likely fail to meet the sustainable goals, failing at the same time our researchers and society and taxpayers at large. We can longer choose on which side to stand. We have let papers, money, Impact Factor, be the currency in the academic world for way too long; it's time we move the focus to what really matters: integrity, mentorship, care for mental health, inclusion. In this talk I will present some key aspects of a different science, a science that I dream about every day, a science that goes back to where it belongs, at the heart of society, and that will help us meet the challenging and difficult times we are living, and the ones yet to come.
