Andrea Renda è Senior Fellow del Centre for European Policy Studies. Insegna regolamentazione delle nuove tecnologie e politiche per l'Intelligenza Artificiale all'Istituto Universitario Europeo di Firenze. È stato membro del gruppo di esperti dell'Unione europea sull'intelligenza artificiale e autore principale dello studio d'impatto dell'AI Act europeo. Coordina il gruppo sui rischi dell'IA presso l'OCSE, è membro del gruppo di lavoro sull'IA del Consiglio sul Commercio e la Tecnologia tra Europa e USA, ed è condirettore del Foro per la Cooperazione sull'Intelligenza Artificiale (FCAI).
Andrea is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels, and teaches Regulation of Emerging Technologies and "AI: ethics, governance and policy challenges" at the European University Institute in Florence. He was a member of the EU High-Level Expert Group on AI and the leads author of the impact study of the EU AI act. He chairs the OECD group on AI risk; is a member of the EU-US Trade and Technology Council's working group on AI; and is the co-director of the Forum for Cooperation on AI (FCAI).

ABSTRACT
Il dibattito sulla regolamentazione dell'IA si è fatto sempre più vibrante negli ultimi sei anni. Dall'iniziale, siderale distanza tra fautori dell'innovazione a tutti i costi e oltranzisti del controllo giuridico delle nuove tecnologie si è gradualmente passati a una convergenza sulla necessità di regolare almeno alcune applicazioni dell'IA pre promuoverne un uso responsabile. L'emergere dei c.d. foundation models e dell'IA generativa ha ulteriormente accelerato il processo, e nelle ultime settimane si sono delineate iniziative a livello internazionale che avranno un impatto notevole sul mondo della ricerca e dell'industria. In questa presentazione, Andrea Renda fa il punto sulle nuove frontiere della regolazione e su come i ricercatori dovranno tener conto delle regole in corso di definizione.
The debate on AI policy and regulation has gradually become more vibrant over the past six years. From the initial stark contrast between unconditional promoters of innovation and advocates of rigid legal control over new technologies, today there seems to be greater convergence on the need to regulate at least some high-risk AI uses to promote the diffusion of trustworthy AI. The rise of foundation models and generative AI systems further accelerated this process, and over the past weeks important initiatives have been launched in this domain, which will lead to substantial impacts for the world of research and science, as well as for industry. In this presentation, Andrea Renda will walk the audience through some of the recent developments, and will discuss how researchers will have to take upcoming rules into account in their work.
